Healthcare Reform
Making health promotion and illness prevention a top priority in Ontario will reduce demand and control health care costs. We will invest $200 million over four years in a healthy school food program, and set purchasing targets for sustainable local food in public institutions. To keep Ontarians out of expensive hospital beds we will also invest an additional $2 billion over 4 years in home and long term care services for seniors.
Energy Efficiency
Improving energy efficiency and conservation is the most effective way to reduce our energy costs. We will provide $600 million in refundable tax credits for home owners and landlords over the next four years to incentivize investments in energy efficiency and building retrofits.
Sustainable Transportation
An efficient transportation system saves commuters time and money and improves air quality by reducing fuel consumption. The Green Party of Ontario will dedicate $400 million over four years to provide tax credits to support ride sharing, car-pooling, and public transit use.
Strong Schools
Green M.P.P.s will ensure that postsecondary education in Ontario remains accessible and affordable by freezing university and college tuition fees for the 2012-2013 school year and indexing tuition increases in 2013-2015 to the rate of inflation. We will also increase investments in co-operative, mentorship, and apprenticeship programs.
